Her Blessing Day

Our sweet baby girl was blessed back in June and what a WONDERFUL day it was. It was filled with LOTS of family and friends that took the time to drive long distances and some even took planes rides to be her for her special day.

Now, we are extremely blessed to have a Nana who is a master seamstress and she has lovingly made a blessing outfit for each of her grandbabies. What a treasure right?! The one she made for our boys was the cutest thing I have ever seen! The cuteness bar was set quite high. Well, I don't know how she did it but she out did herself once again with this classic beauty. Everything on this gown has meaning, history and love sewn into every seam.
The ONE request I had was for it to have a peter pan collar, the rest was all inspired by Nana.
Here's the story:
The linen fabric is fabric thats been used for multiple blessing gowns. The silk ribbon that lines the hem and sleeves are from her T.T's (aunt) wedding gown (and all hand sewn on I may add) and the pleats near the bottom represent her and her family (6 all together) as well as the pleats on the bodice (3 brothers and one for mom and one for dad).

One of the most precious items adorning her dress are the buttons. These buttons come from Great Great Grandma Ruby's button box. How cool is that?! The headband she wore is a borrow from her Aunt Jenni who's daughter was the first to wear it. This hand crocheted headband was made by Penny's Great Grandma King and each cousin has worn it for her blessing day. Her dress was made with no pattern and is held together with delicate silk thread.
I'm so grateful that we have this little piece of family history couture in our home. I hope this will stay in the family for generations to come and that the history behind it will be passed on as well. I look forward to seeing my granddaughters wear this on their blessing days. How neat will that be?!
