My husband's family goes on an annual summer vacation in Bass Lake, California. Our little family doesn't always get to go because we have been busy growing our family over the past few years but this year the timing was right and we went! We had 5 individual families in attendance which brought us to 12 adults and 13 kids. The kids ranged in age from 6 months to 10 years old. The lake was EXTREMELY low this year due to the sought conditions in California but on the plus side, we had nice warm water to splash around in. My boys have never been camping (note: we stayed in cabins which is my extent of "camping" with the ages of our boys right now) and this trip was pure awesomeness for them. They were covered in DIRT from head to toe everyday. Thank goodness for the showers! They both enjoyed their first s'mores! We made Reese's s'mores on Ritz crackers... THE BEST S'MORES ever! *** Here is where we got the idea from. Natalie is an awesome up an coming online cook and she's family. Lucky us*** I'm not a big fan of the classic s'more but i LOVED the ritz ones. Great balance of salty and sweet. I think Max ate about 5! Mom and Dad survived all 3 sleeping in one room each night (wasn't too sure about this one) and we all enjoyed a nice break from TV and other electronics (for the most part). I think Max was a bit overwhelmed by it all and it sorta brought out his inner 'meltdown Max' which was a bit of bummer. Rex was a bit of a wanderer, always off by himself playing, mumbling and singing to himself. Fox enjoyed eating the buffet of dirt and rocks (oh the joys of taking a 1 year old camping...). I loved watching the boys play and make memories. This trip was best described by the newlywed couple who came with us best, they called it a kid-cation and it really was. Mom and Dad seriously could have used a real vacation after this vacation but I am so glad we went. I REALLY tried to break out the camera from time to time. I may have been just a tad obsessed with my niece in the pink swimsuit. It didn't help that she LOVED being in front of the camera either. I never had the chance to walk around alone and capture all the details of the lake that I wanted but I am happy with what I captured nonetheless. Some of these black and white shots are going to be near and dear to my heart for a long time!
